Junior Cody Brown and Sophmore Ruby Flores are destined for TFA state. This is an outstanding accomplishment for anyone, let alone a team who has only been together for one year. In order to qualify for TFA state, a team must place first in a debate meet or stack up a certain number of wins over the course of the debate season. Cody and Ruby placed first in the Big Spring meet earlier in the year which propelled them into the position of a state qualifying team.
“For a young team they’re doing very well, but the most important thing for them to do is to stay grounded in their success. It’s not the success of the team, rather the heart of the team that matters,” said Speech and Debate teacher Ms. Bracy. The state meet will be held March 12 through the 16 in El Paso, Texas. Cody and Ruby are both excited and humbled by the opportunity.
“This year has had its ups and downs but Cody and I have stuck it out and really learned to stick together,” said Ruby. “I’m very proud of Cody as well as our success on the season. I hope next year is as terrific as this one has been.”
